The Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports that each year, 98,000 Americans die because of medical errors, a significant portion of which are associated with the use of drugs and medical devices. Safe use of medical products can save tens of thousands of lives each year.
To carry out one of the recommendations in its May 1999 Report, "Managing the Risks from Medical Product Use," FDA is providing a forum for discussion between consumer and patient organizations and representatives of the medical, scientific, business, and government sectors.
Reporters who would like to attend this free workshop should call the number above to register. Space is limited.
