PRESIDENTIAL RANK AWARD BESTOWED TO FIVE TOP
FDA OFFICIALS
The Presidential Rank Award - among the highest honors given
to career Federal civil servants in the Senior Executive Service -
was given for fiscal year 2000 to five top FDA officials. The
five officials honored were:
- Gary J. Dykstra, Regional Director for the Southeast
Region, Office of Regulatory Affairs
- Elizabeth D. Jacobson, Ph.D, Deputy Director for Science
of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health
- Joseph A. Levitt, Director of the Center for Food Safety
and Applied Nutrition
- Janice F. Oliver, Deputy Director of the Center for Food
Safety and Applied Nutrition
- Stephen F. Sundlof, D.V.M., Ph.D, Director of the Center
for Veterinary Medicine
Each of these individuals received Meritorious Executive
Presidential Rank Award - given for long term accomplishment in
providing the highest level of integrity, leadership and personal
conduct in their work. The awardees were selected by the
President after a rigorous review process conducted by the Office
of Personnel Management. The selection process involved
nominations by agency heads and subsequent reviews by panels of
private citizens.
A maximum of only five percent of all Senior Executive
Service employees were able to receive this award in fiscal year
2000.
