November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.  Please join our FDA experts from the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) Office of Hematology and Oncology products (OHOP), Dr. Gideon Blumenthal and Dr. Sean Khozin, for a discussion on lung cancer.  Learn about new therapies and FDA resources on lung cancer.

Gideon Blumenthal, MDGideon Michael Blumenthal, M.D. is Clinical Team Leader for lung cancer and head and neck cancer and Scientific Liaison for lung cancer in the Division of Oncology Products- 2, Office of Hematology Oncology Products, Office of New Drugs, at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Administration, Silver Spring, Maryland. As part of his professional development, he is an attending physician at the thoracic malignancies clinic at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.  His research interests include the study of novel endpoints for immunotherapy and targeted therapy and novel trial designs such as master protocols to expedite the development of highly safe and effective therapies for lung cancer patients in the era of molecularly targeted therapies. 

Sean Khozin, MDSean Khozin, MD, MPH is a Senior Medical Officer at FDA’s Office of Hematology and Oncology Products focusing on thoracic and head & neck oncology. He is also the co-founder and project lead for Information Exchange and Data Transformation (INFORMED), an FDA big data initiative designed to support novel scientific research using large clinical trial datasets and emerging pipelines of data from sources such as electronic medical record systems, biometric monitoring devices, wearable technologies, and social media networks. 

Previously, Dr. Khozin was in private practice in New York City (NYC) and an attending physician at St Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan.  He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Master of Public Health from George Washington University.  He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College in NYC and Medical Oncology Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  Dr. Khozin continues to see patients at NCI’s thoracic oncology clinic.
