Register To Participate In A Public Listening Session + Fellowship Application Closing Soon
FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products' Office of Science is holding a public listening session on April 5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. PST in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in San Diego. Senior staff from the Office of Science will be present to hear relevant presentations from members of the public. Although presentations on any topic relevant to science-based regulation of tobacco products are welcome, we are particularly interested in hearing from the public on Center priorities, including:
- Preventing youth tobacco initiation;
- Encouraging adults who use tobacco to quit;
- Reducing product harms and addictiveness; and
- Developing a science base and continuing meaningful product regulation to reduce the toll of tobacco-related disease, disability, and death.
While this is a public listening session, you must register to present by March 21. We will contact those whose presentations are selected no later than March 25, and provide details on submitting any slides as well as the length of time available for the presentations. Please note that this listening session will not be webcast, but a transcript will be available and posted online in May 2014. Please visit our website for more information.
REMINDER: FDA is offering mid-career professionals the opportunity to spend a year in the Center for Tobacco Products. FDA Tobacco Regulatory Science fellows actively participate in the development of science-based public health strategies and serve as the lead for defined projects, meet with policy leaders, and develop new competencies. The fellowship is a unique collaborative program between FDA and the Institute of Medicine designed for individuals from a range of disciplines, including health communication and education, public policy, research, law, public administration, business administration, science, and compliance.
The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, March 3 – all application materials, including the reference letters, must be submitted online by this deadline. To find out more, visit the FDA Tobacco Regulatory Science Fellowship website.
