Public Listening Session for the Office of Science, Center for Tobacco Products, FDA

The Office of Science in the Center for Tobacco Products is holding a public listening session in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Senior staff from the Office of Science will be present to hear relevant presentations from members of the public who have registered by the deadline below. If time allows, brief presentations from audience members who did not register in advance may be accepted.
Although presentations on any topic relevant to science-based regulation of tobacco products are welcome, we are particularly interested in hearing from the public on priorities discussed in a December 11, 2013 webinar from Mitch Zeller, JD, Director of the Center for Tobacco Products (the webinar can be found at http://www.fda.gov/TobaccoProducts/NewsEvents/ucm368823.htm ). Those topics are:
CTP’s Public Health Goals:
- Prevent youth tobacco initiation
- Encourage adults who use tobacco to quit
- Reduce product harms and addictiveness
- Develop a science base and continue meaningful product regulation to reduce the toll of tobacco-related disease, disability and death
Proposals for presentations on other topics related to the science-based regulation of tobacco products are also welcome!
Who may participate in this session?
The goal is to facilitate public comment regarding the scientific issues associated with the process of tobacco product regulation. This session is being held in conjunction with the American Association for Cancer Research for the convenience of the many researchers who attend this meeting, and for others present on the west coast. This is not a session of AACR and you do not have to be registered for the AACR meeting in order to attend or present at the FDA public listening session.
Registration to Present at the Public Listening Session
Register to present at the public listening session at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YV32X8J . The deadline for registering to present is March 21, 2014. We will contact those whose presentations are selected no later than March 25, 2014, and provide details on submitting any slides and the length of time available for the presentation.
Please provide your name, affiliation, the topic on which you wish to present, and the amount of time requested. It is anticipated that presentations will be limited to no more than 10 minutes each, and that time may be restricted further if there are many requests to present.
If time allows, FDA may accept brief presentations from audience members who did not register in advance to speak. Please check in at the registration desk in the session room for this option. It is not necessary to register if you are only planning to attend the session, and not present.
This public listening session will not be webcast, but a transcript will be available and posted on this website in May, 2014.
