Tobacco Products

This Week in CTP – December 4, 2013

A Final Guidance for Industry and an Upcoming Webinar

Today, FDA announced the availability of a final guidance, “Civil Money Penalties for Tobacco Retailers: Responses to Frequently Asked Questions.” This guidance provides information in response to frequently asked questions that FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) is receiving from retailers and other interested stakeholders regarding the issuance of civil money penalties for violations of Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requirements relating to tobacco products in retail outlets. In particular, the guidance provides information about CTP’s enforcement of the requirement that tobacco products may not be sold or distributed in violation of FDA’s regulations and about procedures the Agency follows when it initiates enforcement actions.

Visit our website to read the guidance and learn more about CTP's efforts to keep tobacco out of the hands of America's youth.

Please join us next Wednesday for an FDA Basics webinar entitled, “20 Years Later – Returning to FDA to Regulate Tobacco,” to learn more about CTP Director Mitch Zeller’s background and to hear his thoughts on key opportunities for FDA to help reduce the burden of tobacco through product regulation. The webinar will be moderated by CTP’s Director of Health Communication and Education, Kathy Crosby, and will allow for questions and answers at the end of the presentation.
