Rikki USA, Inc.Re-Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Shrimp in Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) produced for the Siamrica Co. to Correct Lot Number
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 24, 2009 - Rikki USA, Inc. of Redmond, WA is voluntarily recalling 168 cases of Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang), manufactured for the SIAMRICA Co., Bellevue, WA, because it may contain undeclared shrimp in the red curry paste. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to shrimp run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) was distributed by JC Wright to Whole Foods in Redmond, WA; Food Emporium, WA; and Bridgeport Village, OR and New Seasons Market, OR; and through Mile Post 65 to small retail stores in Washington state.
Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) is sold in 12oz glass bottles with a bright orange colored label. Product is coded with lot number 940509. The lot number can be found on the neck of the bottle just above the label.
No illnesses have been reported to date due to this issue.
The recall was initiated after a routine FDA inspection found that the label for Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) was missing the sub ingredient for the red curry paste, which contains shrimp. The shrimp was not declared as an allergen. The problem was caused due to the outsourcing of the labels by its owner, the SIAMRICA Co., who supplies the label to Rikki USA, Inc. for the production of their product.
Consumers who have purchased Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact SIAMRICA CO. at 425 641 9831 (Monday-Friday 9:00a – 5:00p PST) - or Rikki USA, Inc., at 1-866-707-4554 (Monday-Friday 9:00a – 5:00p PST),
