Wonder Ice Cream Company Announces Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Candy Blast 10oz Cups Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Newark, CA – February 3, 2009 -- Wonder Ice Cream Company has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of its’ Candy Blast 10oz Ice Cream Cups with manufacturing codes ending in 07 or 08. This recalled product contain peanut ingredients supplied by Peanut Corporation of America and may be contaminated with Salmonella. This recall has been prompted by Peanut Corporation of America’s recall of all peanut products manufactured in their Blakely, Georgia facility since Jan. 1, 2007.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The recalled products can be identified (UPC code 2391116101) with a manufacturing code ending in 07 or 08. The manufacturing code is the 5 digit number printed vertically on the side of the cup just below the top rim. These products are sold as single serving cups in retail freezer display cases and from vending trucks. The recalled product has been supplied to distributors located in the following states: California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, Michigan, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. No other Wonder Ice Cream products are part of this recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to not consume the product and dispose of it. Consumers with questions or who would like a refund may contact 800-660-7060 between 8am and 4pm Pacific Time. Please have the manufacturing code available when calling. Consumers with questions or concerns about their health should contact their doctor.
