Ramsey Popcorn Co. Recalls Camp Masters Chocolatey Peanut Clusters Sold In Maryland, Mississippi And Texas Because Of Possible Risk To Health
Daniel R. Sieg
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Ramsey, IN -- February 20, 2009 --- Ramsey Popcorn Co. is issuing a voluntary recall of 117 bags of 12 oz Chocolatey Peanut Clusters as a result of the expansion of the PCA recall related to Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
The recalled lot was sold through fundraising groups in Maryland, Mississippi and Texas and was shipped in December 2008.
Chocolatey Peanut Clusters are one of the five different products sold in a Camp Masters Gourmet Popcorn 88 oz. Treasure Tin, UPC 7520100820. The Chocolatey Peanut Clusters are the only product in the tin that are under recall. The recalled lot of Chocolatey Peanut Clusters is in a plastic pouch with a white paper label on the bag within each Treasure Tin, and the bag on the recalled lot reads "12 oz Chocolatey Peanut Clusters Best By May 24, 2009".
No other CAMP MASTERS or Ramsey Popcorn Co. products are part of this recall.
The recall is limited to the 117 bags of Chocolatey Peanut Clusters as there is a possibility that the peanuts used to produce this product could have come from a secondary supplier who had purchased peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America in Blakely, Georgia.
Although Ramsey Popcorn has received no complaints or reports of any illness related to this product, or any other products, we are taking this precautionary action out of caution and concern for consumer safety. Consumers with unopened, sealed peanut clusters, with the above listed labeling, are urged to contact the company to arrange for the return and full refund of the purchase price by calling 1-800-624-2060, (Monday-Friday, 8am-3:00pm EST) or by sending an e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org
