Potent Foods®, Inc. Announces Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Potent Life™ Bars

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 3, 2009- Potent Foods, Inc. of Lake Oswego, Oregon is recalling Potent Foods® Potent Life™ bars because it was discovered that its distributor was supplying organic peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America, and may be contaminated with salmonella.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the Potent Life™ bars.
The FDA recently expanded its investigation of Peanut Corporation of America to include peanut products produced in its Texas facility. The organic peanuts used in the Potent Life™ bars came from this facility.
No other Potent Foods® products are involved or impacted.
Potent Foods® Potent Life™ Bars are distributed nationally through retail health food stores and internet sites. The specific products included in the recall are:
All Potent Life Bars distributed from June, 2008 to February 24, 2009 are involved in this recall. Potentially affected products can be identified by the following Best By Dates:

*All further production will be made with nuts from a separate supplier not affected by this recall.
The bars are packaged in 1.4 oz. packages and 12-count printed boxes.

The FDA has indicated that Peanut Corporation of America is the focus of an investigation into salmonella-related illnesses thought to be caused by tainted peanut products. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanuts used were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Potent Foods, Inc. has informed the FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
