FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- HOUSTON, TX., Feb. 4, 2009 – Labrada Nutrition is announcing a voluntary recall of specified lots of Rockin' Roll Brand Nut Roll Bars because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Though Labrada Nutrition is not aware of any reported cases of illness related to these products, it has issued this voluntary recall as a precautionary measure.
The recalled product contains roasted peanuts supplied by Peanut Corporation of America, which recently announced an expansion of a voluntary recall covering all peanut products made in their Blakely, GA plant since January 1, 2007. Peanut Corporation of America is currently the focus of an ongoing investigation concerning the recent Salmonella outbreaks.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The following lots of product were distributed nationwide:
Rockin’ Roll Brand Nutty Flavor Bars, 2.47 oz size, UPC# 10799 11559
No other Labrada Nutrition products are affected by this recall.
Consumers who have purchased Rockin' Roll Brand Nut Roll Bars should check the lot numbers, which can be found under the fold on the back of the wrapper of the individual bars and on the right side of each box of bars. If consumers find that they have product from the lots listed above, they are asked not to consume the products. Consumers seeking a replacement or exchange for recalled products should visit the Labrada Nutrition website at www.labrada.com.
