Hialeah Products, Inc. d/b/a New Urban Farms Conducts Nationwide Recall of Various Snack Products Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Hollywood, Florida -- February 6, 2009--- Hialeah Products, Inc. of Hollywood, Florida, is recalling specific snack items because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  This action is a result of Peanut Corp. Of America expanded recall of January 29, 2009 for all products manufactured in their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007.

Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.  For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website at http://www.cdc.gov

No Illnesses have been reported to date.

Only products that were produced with peanuts that came from Peanut Corp. Of America in Blakely, Georgia are being recalled.  The snacks are packaged in clear plastic bags or clear plastic tubs with an applied label.  Product may be a single item (peanuts) or a blend dried fruits, nuts and peanuts.  The products are sold under the names of: Hialeah Products, New Urban Farms, Epicure Market, Stiles Market, Gardners Market, Baileys General Store, Hales Grove River Market, The Sandy Butler, Carmines Market, Joannas Marketplace, Crown Wine & Spirits, Florida Snacks, Rosen Plaza Hotel, Rosen Shingle Creek, Grapevine Gourmet, Perricones Marketplace, Kastners, Salamander Market, Oh Nuts,  Mazzaro Market, Portofino Market, Portofino Winebank, Artdeco Market, Diamond Café & Market, Surfmed, Sunharvest Snacks, Healthy State of Mind, Fisher Island, Golden Cockatoo, Kosher Marketplace.

The affected snack products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada through retail stores, mail order, and direct delivery.  All products listed below should be returned to Hialeah Products or destroyed.  Call toll free (800) 923-3379 with questions/concerns.
