FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Grand Rapids, MI -- February 19, 2009 --- Grandpa Dons LLC of Grand Rapids, MI is recalling Grandpa's Oven Santa Fe Snack Mix, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Grandpa's Oven Santa Fe Snack Mix was distributed in all states and major cities through retail stores.

Grandpa's Oven Santa Fe Snack Mix is packaged in a 12 oz. laminated film pouch with a clear window on the front of the pouch for product viewing. The product is a mix of rye chips, Sanish peanuts, pretzel chips, sesame chips, a flavored crouton, and a corn biscuit cereal. A lot code is stamped on the package and the beginning of the lot code is a "Best If Used By" date. The "Best If Used By" dates under recall are: SEP1008, SEP1108, SEP1408, OCT1408, OCT2308, NOV 2408, NOV2508, OCT1109, NOV2009 and DEC2009. UPC code 070678109060

No illnesses have been reported, to date, associated with this product.

This recall was as a result of the use of Spanish peanuts that were purchased from the Plainview Peanut Company of Texas, a subsidiary of Peanut Corp of America, located in Georgia. The Plainview facility has been found to have significant sanitation issues, similar to issues noted at the Georgia facility where salmonella has been isolated.

Consumers who have purchased Grandpa Oven Santa Fe Snack Mix are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Grandpa Dons LLC at 1-866-767-5267 M-F between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
