Giambri's Quality Sweets Recalls Peanut Butter Easter Eggs Because Of Possible Health Risk
Giambri’s Quality Sweets
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- January 30, 2009 -- Giambri’s Quality Sweets of Clementon, NJ is voluntarily recalling Peanut Butter Easter Eggs, and Peanut Butter Truffles because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes-fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Peanut Butter Eggs and Truffles were sold through our website, fundraising department and retail store in New Jersey. Products were distributed in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware from February 2008 through January 28, 2009.
The Peanut Butter Truffles are found as part of our 8 ounce, 1 pound and 2 pound Deluxe Assorted Chocolates packed in a box containing our Giambri logo. The Peanut Butter Truffles are rectangular in shape and have a letter “P” on top of the piece of chocolate. There are only one or two pieces of the Peanut Butter Truffles in each 1 pound box.
The Peanut Butter Eggs are packed in a brown shipper box for wholesale. Retail packaging is as follows: a yellow Easter design box (Petite Peanut Butter Eggs), a 12 count Easter design box (12 count Peanut Butter Eggs), or an Easter design box with clear cellophane window (8 oz Peanut Butter Easter Egg, 1 pound Peanut Butter Easter Egg). The Giambri name is imprinted on all of the retail boxes.
No illnesses associated with our products have been reported to date.
The recall is the result of a major recall issued by one of our peanut butter suppliers, Peanut Corporation of America. Unfortunately, this peanut butter is part of the ingredients used to make our Peanut Butter Truffles and Peanut Butter Eggs. We have ceased the manufacturing and distribution of products using this source of peanut butter, changed our supplier and our recipe.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to destroy it or return it to our New Jersey retail store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-866-238-0169.
