Four In One LLC Recalls "Lucky" Brand Peanut Butter Pouches Because Of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Chelmsford, MA -- 02/20/2009 --- Four In One LLC of Chelmsford, MA is recalling "LUCKY" Brand, 0.75oz. and 1.12oz. individual serving pouches of Peanut Butter, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Peanut Butter was shipped to distributors in IL, NJ, NY, MI, MD, PA and NH. It is an institutional product and is not intended to be sold at the retail level.

This product was distributed in natural colored cardboard boxes with stenciling on the outside of the master carton with a product code of PB275 (200ea 0.75oz.), PB4001 (400ea 1.12oz.) or PB4002 (200ea 1.12oz.) with lot codes between 1067 through 3458.

The individual pouches are not labeled for retail sale or identified with a lot code. The pouches are white with brown lettering and are labeled Lucky Peanut Butter with net weights of 0.75oz. or 1.12oz.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was as the result of peanut butter sourced from The PEANUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA (PCA). The FDA is investigating the outbreak of Salmonella linked to PCA's plant in Blakely, GA peanut and peanut product manufacturing facility.
