FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MINDEN, NEVADA, January 30, 2009 -- Forward Foods LLC today announced a voluntary recall of DETOUR® branded bars that contain roasted peanuts purchased from Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning a recent Salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut products. PCA has informed Forward Foods that there is risk that roasted peanuts supplied by PCA may have been contaminated with Salmonella.

Certain Detour products listed below are being recalled out of an abundance of caution because they contain roasted peanuts manufactured by PCA.  Representative samples of our products are routinely tested by an independent laboratory and all testing to date has indicated no Salmonella contamination in any Detour products. Forward Foods LLC is taking this precautionary step to protect the safety of our consumers.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Detour products have not been linked to any incidents of Salmonella, and we are not aware of any illnesses that have been linked to our products.
