Farmer's Market Recalls Bulk Peanuts and Trail Mix Because of Possible Health Risk
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 10, 2009 -- Farmer's Market of Grants Pass, OR is recalling bulk Cascade Organic Trail Mix, Mt. Hood Trail Mix, and Honey Roasted Peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The products were manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Cascade Organic Trail Mix
Purchased before February 12, 2009. Organic Cascade Trail Mix was sold in a bulk bin dispenser labeled “Cascade Organic Trail Mix”, PLU #991. There were no additional lot codes or UPC codes on bin.
Mt. Hood Trail Mix
Purchased before February 12, 2009. Mt. Hood Trail Mix was sold in a bulk bin dispenser labeled “Mt. Hood Trail Mix”, PLU #514. There were no additional lot codes or UPC codes on bin.
Honey Roasted Peanuts
Purchased before February 12, 2009. Honey Roasted Peanuts was sold in a bulk bin dispenser labeled “Peanuts Honey Roasted”, PLU #027. There were no additional lot codes or UPC codes on bin.
No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Farmer's Market has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
