FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 19, 2009 -- E & S Sales of Shipshewana, IN is recalling three products containing peanuts packaged under their store name, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The products were sold by weight in the E & S Sales retail store in Shipshewana, IN and were bagged in approx. 1 lb clear plastic bags with a label showing the product name, weight, price per lb, ingredients, and total cost.
The products under recall are French Burnt Peanuts, Boston Baked Beans and Granulated Peanuts. There are no UPC codes on the packages.
E & S has received no complaints of illness to date and all of these products have been pulled from store shelves.
E & S was informed by our vendor that these products were manufactured using peanuts which have since been recalled by the Peanut Corporation of America.
If you have purchased any of these items, please return the product to us for a full refund, or hold the product and phone us at (260) 768-4736 during our normal store hours. More information on peanut related products being recalled is available on the website www.michigan.gov/mda.
