A. M. Braswell, Jr. Food Company, Inc. Recalls Nationwide Peanut Products Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Toledo, OH -- February 13, 2009. As a result of the expansion of Peanut Corporation of America’s recall to include all peanuts and peanut products processed in its Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007, A. M. Braswell, Jr. Food Company, Inc., Statesboro, Georgia, has issued a voluntary recall for the following products:

This recall is issued because the above products include peanuts or peanut products supplied by Peanut Corporation of America and may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more sever illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date in connection with the recalled products. Consumers who have any of the above products in their home should destroy them. Anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a physician immediately.

All lots for the products listed above that are affected begin with the lot 7, 8, or 9.

These products were distributed to and ultimately intended for retail sale in the following States but not limited to:
AL,CA,CT,DE,FL,GA,IA,ID,IL,KY,MA,ME,MD,MI,MN,MO,MS,NC,NH,NJ,NM,NY,OH,PA,RI,SC,TN,TX,VA,VT,WA,WI.

No other Braswell products are part of this recall. The Company has informed the FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency. Consumers with questions may contact the Company at 912-764-6191 between 9am-5pm EST.
