General Mills Voluntarily Recalls Limited Quantity of Progresso Traditional New England Clam Chowder in Seven States

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Minneapolis, MN -- November 23, 2004 -- General Mills is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of its 18.5 ounce can of Progresso Traditional New England Clam Chowder. The product may contain fragments of metal. There have been no reports of injury or illness associated with this recall. This voluntary recall only includes the Traditional New England Clam Chowder flavor and does not include any other Progresso products.

The product was distributed to retail stores in seven states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A total of 256 cases containing the following date code are being recalled:

Progresso Traditional New England Clam Chowder 18.5 ounce can
Date code: Best if used by: 08 Oct06 NV NEC-5 (located on the top of the can).

Other Progresso flavors with this date code are not being recalled.

Consumers who purchased a can of Progresso Traditional New England Clam Chowder with the best if used date of 08 Oct06 NV NEC-5 may return the product to their retailer for a full refund. Consumers with questions can call General Mills' consumer response line at 1-800-200-9377.
