Can a facility inquire whether the patient has a breast implant at the time the appointment is being made, or immediately prior to the actual mammographic examination?

Policy Guidance Help System logo

Either method is acceptable. The facility may inquire whether the patient has a breast implant at any time prior to the actual mammographic examination. Facilities without implant imaging expertise may want to identify breast implant patients at the time of scheduling so patients may be referred to facilities with such expertise.
