Interpreting Physician Initial Experience
Citation:
900.12(a)(1)(i)(D): The interpreting physician shall have interpreted or multi-read at least 240 mammographic examinations within the 6-month period immediately prior to the date that the physician qualifies as an interpreting physician. This interpretation or multi-reading shall be under the direct supervision of an interpreting physician.
Questions:
- What does it mean for a physician to be under the direct supervision of a qualified interpreting physician? Does the supervising physician have to sit next to the physician being supervised when he or she reads and interprets the film? Whose name goes on the report, the supervising physician or the physician being supervised?
- Under the interim regulations, physicians could not count interventional mammographic examinations toward the initial or continuing experience requirements. Does this continue under the final regulations?
