YAG capsulotomies were not performed because the sponsor has identified that the lenses contained within the IMT telescope can be damaged by the laser.
The sponsor has proposed labeling to provide instruction to the physician regarding the performance of YAG capsulotomy through the periphery of the telescope as well as recommending the needling procedure. YAG capsulotomy was successfully performed in 8 rabbit eyes implanted with the IMT. The results of this study were reported in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (2003).
