Diagnosis of COPD

• Clinically based on:

  • Smoking history
  • Age
  • Symptoms
  • Persistent airflow obstruction (spirometry)
    • FEV1 post bronchodilator < 80% predicted
    • FEV1 / FVC < 70%

• The presence of reversibility does not exclude a diagnosis of COPD
