Consumer Safety Information on the Recalled Frozen Ground Tuna from Osamu Corporation

Osamu Corporation of Gardena, CA, is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,800 cases of frozen ground tuna because the Food and Drug Administration found decomposition and high histamine levels in several samples of the product. Consumption of fish with high histamine levels can lead to a condition known as scombroid poisoning.
The FDA sampled the product after three people became ill from eating sushi containing Osamu Corporation’s frozen ground tuna.
Scombroid poisoning can cause reactions in which affected persons experience several of the following symptoms: tingling or burning sensation in the mouth, facial swelling, rash, hives, itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. However, individuals may experience symptoms differently. Persons developing these symptoms should seek medical attention.
Osamu Corporation shipped the frozen ground tuna between August 18 and September 8, 2011 to three distributors: AFC Corporation, Red Shell Foods and Pacific Fresh Fish Company in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia Wisconsin.
Customers who have purchased the recalled frozen ground tuna are urged not to consume it and to return it to the distributor or the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Osamu Corporation at 1-310-327-6376, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PST).
