Attached is the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for this food contact notification. The food-contact substance is silver nitrate as a component of an antimicrobial formulation for use on poultry carcasses, poultry parts, and whole and cut raw fruits and vegetables.
When the notification becomes effective, this FONSI and the notifier's revised environmental assessment, dated November 15, 2002, may be made available to the public.
Please let us know if there is any change in the identity or use of the food-contact substance.
Finding of No Significant Impact
A food contact notification (FCN No. 296), submitted by Dr. Kareem I. Batarseh, to provide for the safe use of silver nitrate as a component of an antimicrobial formulation for use on poultry carcasses, poultry parts, and whole and cut raw fruits and vegetables.
The Office of Food Additive Safety has determined that allowing this notification to become effective will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment and therefore will not require the preparation of an environmental impact statement. This finding is based on information submitted by the notifier in an environmental assessment dated November 15, 2002.
