Finding of No Significant Impact
A food contact notification (FCN No. 168), submitted by Lonza Inc. c/o Lewis & Harrison, L.L.C., to provide for the safe use of a mixture of hydroxymethyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (MMDMH) and 1,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DMDMH) containing up to 8.5% by weight dimethylhydantoin as an adjuvant in the bleaching of recycled paper and paperboard.
The Environmental Review Group has determined that allowing this notification to become effective will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment and therefore will not require the preparation of an environmental impact statement. This finding is based on information submitted by the notifier in an environmental assessment dated July 27, 2001.
