M-A-90

August 15, 1995 (issued)

August 1, 1995 (effective date)

TO:   All Regional Food and Drug Directors Attn: Regional Milk Specialists

FROM:   Acting Chief, Milk Safety Branch, HFS-626

SUBJECT:   Delvo P Multi Test

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has evaluated the Delvo P Multi Test (packaged as Delvotest P 5 Pack) as provided for in Section 6, Administrative Procedure #7, of the Grade "A" Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) and found it to be as accurate, precise and practical as the Beta lactam methods currently specified in the PMO. Therefore, the Delvo P Multi Test may be used interchangeably with those methods when testing producer samples to fulfill the residue testing requirements of Section 6 of the PMO.

This interpretation was issued in accordance with the guidelines for issuance of interpretations and was distributed to all state milk regulatory and rating officials for comment. Comments received by the NCIMS Executive Secretary were considered by the NCIMS Executive Board and the FDA and were incorporated into this document when it was agreed to be appropriate.

The NCIMS Executive Board and the FDA agreed that the effective date for this memorandum would be August 1, 1995.

Copies of this memorandum are enclosed for your distribution to District Milk Specialists, State Milk Regulatory Agencies, State Laboratory Evaluation Officers and State Milk Rating Officers in your region. This memorandum is also available on the FDA Prime Connection Computer Bulletin Board System, and should be widely distributed to representatives of the milk industry and other interested parties.
