Guidance for Industry: A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods - Part I

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is currently revising the guidance document entitled “Guidance for Industry: A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Other Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods,” dated April 2008.  We are revising this guidance document in order to make changes in light of FDA’s issuance of  final rules for Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items in Restaurants and Similar Retail Food Establishments and Calorie Labeling of Articles of Food in Vending Machines (published in the Federal Register on December  1, 2014 – see 79 FR 71155 and 79 FR 71259).

Inquiries regarding the menu labeling and vending machine requirements may be sent to CalorieLabeling@fda.hhs.gov or CalorieLabelingVend@fda.hhs.gov.

For related guidance, see Draft Guidance for Industry: A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods – Part II (Menu Labeling Requirements in Accordance with 21 CFR 101.11) released September 2015.
