Bacteriological Analytical Manual

Peptone or gelysate 17.0 g
Protease peptone No. 3 or polypeptone 3.0 g
Sorbitol 10.0 g
Bile salts, purified 1.5 g
NaCl 5.0 g
Agar 13.5 g
Neutral red 0.03 g
Crystal violet 0.001 g
Distilled water 1 liter

Dissolve ingredients in distilled water by heating with stirring. Autoclave 15 min at 121°C. Final pH, 7.1 ± 0.2.
