MCMi in Action: Protecting National Health and Security

FDA is committed to protecting national health and security. We are working to foster the development and availability of medical products that will be needed to counter a public health emergency, no matter its origin.

The FDA Medical Countermeasures Initiative (MCMi) mission has three main components:

 Medical staff talking

Public Health and Security Action Teams promote the development and availability of medical countermeasures (MCMs) by establishing clear regulatory pathways
organ-on-a-chip, held between thumb and forefinger (image courtesy Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering)A robust MCM regulatory science program creates the data necessary to support regulatory decision-making
Stethoscope and booksA collaborative effort to modernize the legal, regulatory and policy framework establishes effective policies and mechanisms to facilitate timely access to available MCMs
