Hello, I am Dr. Andy von Eschenbach, the Commissioner of Food and Drugs. I'd like to welcome you to a series of FDA Internet broadcasts dealing with drug safety public health advisories And also to encourage you to subscribe to this free service.

Our public health advisories provide emerging safety information about drugs. We do this to share with the medical community the latest important information that you should consider when making treatment decisions and prescribing drugs for patients.

Our advisories are meant to be short, to the point and fact-based. They contain our best and current thinking on the significance of new information.

By broadcasting these advisories, we are offering you an additional vehicle for learning about the risks and benefits of medicines. When you subscribe to this service, you will receive our advisories at the same time we release them to the media.

Our audio advisories can serve as an alternative to finding this information on our Web site, reading about it in the newspapers or hearing about it from your patients.

Ensuring the best use of medicines to improve the health of your patients is among FDA's highest priorities. By timely communication of information about the risks and benefits of drugs, we hope to contribute to this goal.

You can listen to our broadcasts on your computer or on a personal audio player. You can subscribe to our series at W-W-W dot F-D-A dot G-O-V slash C-D-E-R.

I want to thank you for joining us for this inaugural broadcast.
