Forum Overview

DR. CRAIGMILL:  Well, I think we just about exhausted the time alloted to this one.  Is that okay?  Rather than delving directly into those questions, since those were public comments, we are going to move on with the workshop as planned.  One of the things that we wanted to do was to have these forums to address particular issues related to what we have been discussing today.  For the first one, for the first experiment, we wanted to start out with efficacy and target animal safety studies, two of the requirements.  Now from some of the slides that we have seen we have seen a lot of people group safety with target- animal safety and human-food safety all in one, and microbial food safety.  We are going to divide it up a little bit and then put the target-animal safety, safety to the target species, and efficacy together into one topic for discussion for the next 45 minutes and just see how it goes.  See where it leads us.  Hopefully we can come up with some questions if people have questions related to efficacy.  I scribbled down some really nice hot topics here.  If people would like to come with questions now we can list them or specific questions for any of the people that have spoken this morning.  Or would you like to hear a list of issues that we can think about?  We want to make this very open.  It’s a workshop.  Remember that things are being recorded, so I mean you are not supposed to say things that your country doesn’t want you to say.  Those are the things that are said when we have the wine, cheese, and beer later.  Okay?
