Update on FDA's Nanotechnology Regulatory Science Research Program Plans

The following documents are referenced as background material for FDA’s update on nanotechnology regulatory science research program plans.

NNI (National Nanotechnology Initiative) Strategic Plan (2011)

The National Nanotechnology Initiative Strategic Plan is the framework that underpins the nanotechnology work of the NNI member agencies. It aims to ensure that advancements in and applications of nanotechnology R&D to agency missions and the broader national interest continue unabated in this still-young area of research and development. Its purpose is to facilitate achievement of the NNI vision by laying out guidance for agency leaders, program managers, and the research community regarding planning and implementation of nanotechnology R&D investments and activities (accessible online at: http://www.nano.gov/node/581).
Please see p13 for information relevant to FDA’s Regulatory Science Research Program.

NNI 2011 Supplement to the President’s Budget

This document is a supplement to the President’s 2011 Budget Request submitted to Congress on February 1, 2010.  It gives a description of the activities underway in 2010 and planned for 2011 by the Federal Government agencies participating in the NNI, primarily from a programmatic and budgetary perspective (accessible online at: http://www.nano.gov/node/219).
Please see p21 for information relevant to FDA’s Regulatory Science Research Program.

NNI 2012 Supplement to the President’s Budget

This document is a supplement to the President’s 2012 Budget Request submitted to Congress in February of 2011. It gives a description of the activities underway in 2010 and 2011 and planned for 2012 by the Federal Government agencies participating in the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), primarily from a programmatic and budgetary perspective (accessible online at: http://www.nano.gov/node/602).
Please see p34 for information relevant to FDA’s Regulatory Science Research Program.

Draft NNI Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Research Strategy

The NNI EHS research strategy represents the consensus of the participating agencies on how to promote the responsible development of nanotechnology by providing guidance to Federal agencies as they develop their agency-specific research priorities, strategies, and implementation plans to achieve this vision (accessible online at: http://strategy.nano.gov/blog/generic/page/draft-nni-ehs-strategy).
