United Nations:

UN Environment Programme-International Registry of Potentially-Toxic Chemicals Moscow, December, 1986

Served as U.S. representative on an IRPTC workgroup charged with developing a glossary of terms used in toxicology, in English and Russian, to establish a common ground for scientists of the Eastern Bloc and the English-speaking Western world.

World Health Organization

WHO Expert Panel of the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR).

As a Panel member from 1991-2000, participate in evaluating toxicological databases for internationally-registered pesticides and determining acceptable daily intakes (ADIs), if the data permit. JMPR develops Maximum Residue Limits which are recommended to the Codex Alimentarius Commission for adoption as internationally-allowable residue limits on food/feed.

Served as member of several WHO International Programme on Chemical Safety workgroups, including peer reviews of IPCS Environmental Health Criteria documents and Health and Safety Guides, the consultation to evaluate how IPCS might streamline its pesticide program, and activities related to the project on Harmonization of Risk Assessment Methodologies.

OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development)

Served as lead U.S. Delegate to OECD's Endocrine Disruptor Testing and Assessment Workgroup (1998-2000). This workgroup is charged with developing an international framework and strategy for screening and testing chemicals for their potential to impact on the endocrine system. Standardization and validation are a key part of this exercise, and the U.S. is advocating the use of the ICCVAM principles to assure the integrity of the resulting testing protocols.

While serving as Special Assistant to the Assistant Administrator for Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances from 1995-1997, I was the EPA representative on the NTP Executive Committee.
