The TPSAC Meeting concluded March 1, 2012. As a result, the meeting will not continue on March 2, 2012.

NOTE: Effective January 1, 2012 - HHS policy prohibits the use of tobacco in all HHS facilities. This includes all tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, smokeless, dissolvable tobacco and e-cigarettes.

Seating for this meeting may be limited, so the public is encouraged to watch the free webcast instead of traveling to the meeting. The link for the webcast will be available 12:30 p.m. on March 1, 2012, on the TPSAC webpage.

 

Agenda:

As part of the TPSAC’s required report to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the committee will complete their discussions of issues related to the nature and impact of the use of dissolvable tobacco products on the public health, including such use among children.   Discussion will include such topics as the composition and characteristics of dissolvable tobacco products, product use, potential health effects, and marketing.

 

Meeting Materials:

Links to meeting materials will be added as they become available.  FDA intends to make complete background material available to the public no later than 2 business days before the meeting. If FDA is unable to post the background material on its website prior to the meeting, the background material will be made publicly available at the location of the advisory committee meeting, and will be posted on FDA’s website after the meeting.

The attached document, “DRAFT Summary: TPSAC Report on Dissolvable Tobacco Products” is being provided for public comment (see below for public participation and due dates).

Interested persons may present data, information, or views, orally or in writing, on issues pending before the committee.
 

  • Written submissions may be made to the contact person on or before February 17, 2012 (one extra day given). Please send 20 paper copies, and one electronic copy, of your submission to:

Copies must be received by 4 p.m. (Eastern) on February 17, 2012.

  • Oral presentations from the public will be scheduled between approximately 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on March 1, 2012. Those individuals interested in making formal oral presentations should notify the contact person and submit a brief statement of the general nature of the evidence or arguments they wish to present, the names and addresses of proposed participants, and an indication of the approximate time requested to make their presentation on or before February 26, 2012 (extended from February 9, 2012).

Time allotted for each presentation may be limited.  If the number of registrants requesting to speak is greater than can be reasonably accommodated during the scheduled open public hearing session, FDA may conduct a lottery to determine the speakers for the scheduled open public hearing session.  The contact person will notify interested persons regarding their request to speak by February 27, 2012.
