Message from RSA Commissioner Lynnae Ruttledge on Vocational Rehabilitation
Presentation at the HHS and FDA Virtual Hiring Event, Nov. 3, 2011
Greetings, and welcome to the Department of Health and Human Services job fair. What a creative way of being able to bring together Federal agencies and job seekers at the same time. My name is Lynnae Ruttledge and I serve as the Commissioner for the Rehabilitation Services Administration at the US Department of Education. On behalf of all of us, I just want to say hello and welcome and best of luck in this way of being able to connect Federal agencies and job seekers together.
As a part of the Presidents overall executive team, we’re trying to bring at least 100,000 more people with disabilities into federal government employment over these next 5 years. The effort that Health and Human Services is doing with their virtual job fair is a part of that initiative. We’re really proud of our partnership with state vocational rehabilitation agencies. With the one million job seekers with disabilities who are served everyday by the VR program, as well as with all of our partners who are helping to make this work, so as you go through the job fair today, I would just encourage you to really reach out to the professional vocational rehabilitation staff who are part of this event, reach out to the job seekers with disabilities, rather they are a current client of the vocational rehabilitation program or not and really help make this a success for all of us.
One of the things that the President has been very strong about is we need to get the economy moving and what we know is that people with disabilities can be a part of that success. So, again on behalf of the Department of Education and the Rehabilitation Services Administration, we wish you a very successful virtual job fair and we look forward to creating success stories with you and promoting those successes as we all move forward. Thanks again.
