Opening Remarks, HHS and FDA Virtual Hiring Event, Nov. 3, 2011, by Michael Kawczynski
Hi, and welcome to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services & Food and Drug Administration's first virtual hiring event being broadcast from FDA's White Oak campus.
I am Michael Kawczynski, Project manager and diversity specialist and your host for today's activities.
We are honored that so many of you have responded and choose to participate in or event today.
So we invite all of you to join us over the next 2 hours to learn about the federal hiring process, working at HHS, FDA and any of our 11 divisions.
Our experts will walk you step by step through the essentials of the federal hiring process.
You will hear from our partner organizations about the importance of utilizing there services, But most importantly at the end of the day. We will be providing all of you these resources. So if you determine that you would like to join our family at HHS, you will have the skills and necessary tools to put your best foot forward.
A while back I was informed of an opportunity to apply and attend a hiring event for people with disabilities here in DC.
Coming from Wisconsin and being disabled, I would have never been able to attend if it wasn't for the support I received from my Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, who believed in my abilities and felt I had the skills necessary to be successful.
It was from that event in DC, that I learned about working at the federal government, and was provided an opportunity to work at the National Institutes of Health and Department of Health and Human Services.
If not given that opportunity to attend that event, I would not have the opportunity to be here today assisting all of you and providing you the tools you need to be successful.
Knowing that there are amazing and talented people all over this country, we are working very hard to create a means in which we can take the concept of hiring events to the next level, and make them accessible to everyone right from the comfort of their home.
Through virtual hiring you get the same opportunities I had, and much more.
So I hope you enjoy today's presentations, but more importantly use the information we provide you, and take time to research and develop your resume package.
When you take those extra steps you will find that the DOOR of opportunity remains much wider.
So let's begin this journey together and thank you for join us.
