Dr. Margaret Hamburg
I’m Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. On behalf of our entire workforce I would like to welcome you to the FDA community. You’re joining a team of creative, dedicated professionals in an agency unique in its mission to take science based action to promote and protect the health of the public.
As you begin your career with us, I hope the FDAs challenging and exciting mission will inspire and motivate you, both personally and professionally as it has thousands before you including the 13,000 current FDA employees around the globe. Undoubtedly our greatest asset is the excellence of our workforce.
We’re an agency with a tremendous heritage and an agency that values recognizes and rewards our employees. I look forward to having you on our team as we work together to advance the FDAs priorities.
Among these are to strengthen regulatory science and ensure the American people can have access to safe and effective medical products, to build global partnerships, to secure the supply chain, and protect the safety of imports, to improve our methods and tools for ensuring the safety of our food supply, to effectively implement the family smoking prevention and tobacco control act, to develop a food laboring program that helps promote healthy practices and reduces the risk of obesity and other chronic diseases and to promote transparency and accountability and maintain the trust and confidence of the American people, by putting our minds together and remaining devoted to our public health mission. We can and we will take the action needed to promote and protect the public health. After all, that’s what the American people demand so that’s what we must deliver.
So thank you for choosing to embark on this important mission with us and once again, welcome to the FDA.
