Engineering Opportunities


 Engineering Co-op Program

The Engineering Cooperative Program is for engineering students who would like to:

  • Join CDRH’s mission to protect public health by ensuring that medical devices
  • Learn about FDA’s evaluation process for medical devices
  • Participate in the evaluation of medical device design
  • Gain practical work experience related to device development and evaluation, in either a regulatory or a laboratory setting
  • Work alongside physicians, engineers and other scientists in assessing medical device design, clinical trial data, adverse event reports and device failures

The Engineering Co-op Program at CDRH:

  • Offers opportunities for undergraduate juniors and seniors.
  • Typically involves a two year commitment, with students alternating semesters between CDRH and school.
  • Provides assignments in the pre-market, post-market, or laboratory investigation areas.

Eligibility

An applicant must be:

  • At least a junior in undergraduate study of engineering.
  • Enrolled in a formal co-operative program in partnership with FDA/CDRH.
  • Registered at the university at a minimum credit-hour level.
  • Of good academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0
    A U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

  • Offers opportunities for undergraduate juniors and seniors.

 Engineering Internships

 

For engineering students and post-graduate engineers who would like to:

  • Join CDRH’s mission to protect public health by ensuring that medical devices
  • Learn about FDA’s evaluation process for medical devices
    Participate in the evaluation of medical device design
  • Gain practical work experience related to device development and evaluation, in either a regulatory or a laboratory setting
  • Work alongside physicians, engineers and other scientists in assessing medical device design, clinical trial data, adverse event reports and device failures

Engineering Internships at CDRH:

  • Offer opportunities for junior and senior undergraduate students, graduate students and doctoral candidates.
  • Typically involve a three-month to one year appointment.
  • Provide assignments in the pre-market, post-market and/or laboratory investigation areas.

Eligibility

An applicant must be:

  • If a student,
    1. at or above the junior year in undergraduate engineering;
    2. registered at the university at a minimum credit-hour level; and
    3. of good academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0
  • If not a student, the recipient of a Bachelors and/or Masters degree in engineering.
  • A U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

  • Learn about FDA’s evaluation process for medical devices
  • Participate in the evaluation of medical device design

  • Work alongside physicians, engineers and other scientists in assessing medical device design, clinical trial data, adverse event reports and device failures

Engineering Fellowships at CDRH:

  • Offer opportunities for post-doctorate and senior-level engineers.
  • Typically involve a three-month to one year appointment.
  • Provide assignments in the pre-market, post-market and/or laboratory investigation areas.

Eligibility

An applicant must be:

  • At minimum the recipient of a Doctoral degree in engineering or engineering-related discipline
  • A U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
