Federal Career Intern Program

Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow

The Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP) is an excepted appointing authority used to assist in recruiting and attracting exceptional candidates from within and outside the Federal sector for entry-level positions. Career Interns are appointed to positions at grades GS-5, 7, or 9.

Excepted Service

All civilian positions which are specifically excepted from the requirements of the Civil Service Act or from the competitive service by statute or by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management by regulation 5 CFR 6.1.

The purpose for this two-year Intern Program is to serve as a cornerstone of succession planning by providing developmental experiences and technical skills needed to progress to higher grade levels in the Food and Drug Administration. Interns participate in a two-year training development program which enables them to gain the needed skills and experience to perform successfully within a position at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Upon successful completion of the all the requirements of the 2 year internship, interns are eligible for noncompetitive conversion and placement to a permanent, Career-Conditional position within the agency.
