DIVISION OF VETERINARY SERVICES

1. DIVISION OF VETERINARY SERVICES (DAECCG).

A. Advises the Deputy Director for Research in the planning and implementation of strategies for achieving annual and long-range plans for research and research support in the area of veterinary services.

B. Assures Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC) accreditation.

C. Provides and maintains an animal breeding capability for selected species and strains. Maintains and cares for animal colonies used for breeding or research projects.

D. Establishes standards and administers procedures for barrier entry, animal handling, and observation and for quarantine of animals purchased from suppliers.

E. Provides and operates support services necessary to maintain the infection-free quality of the barrier operations.

F. Prepares and administers diets of animals used for breeding and experimentation.

G. Collects pertinent information concerning the production and care of animals.

H. Maintains adequate inventories of supplies and materials necessary to support and care for animals held.

I. Provides guidance to researchers in the use of non-human primates.

J. Manages major on-site contracts for research support.

2. AUTHORITY AND EFFECTIVE DATE. 

The functional statements for this Office were approved by the Deputy Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration effective January 13, 2009.
