Research Project: Assuring Safety of Ophthalmic Medical Devices

The goals of this project are to conduct studies to develop methods to determine the influence of soft contact lens materials on disinfectants in multipurpose contact lens solutions (MPS) against S. aureus, Fusarium solani, and Acanthamoeba, develop protocol for to test of MPS against Acanthamoeba, develop analytical methods to measure very low concentrations of disinfectants in MPS, and lastly, determine the etiology of Toxic Anterior Segment syndrome (TASS).

This lab uses an HPLC chromatographic system to measure the concentration of the active biocide in various contact lens solutions.

A graph computed by the HPLC chromatographic system to show the concentration of the active biocide in various contact lens solutions.
