Laboratory of Image Analysis
Laboratory leader: Nicholas Petrick 301.796.2563 nicholas.petrick@fda.hhs.gov
A wide variety of new diagnostic, imaging and software devices are coming to market that require specialized analysis techniques for appropriate performance validation. The Center requires support for the evaluation of many of these new devices. To this end, Image Analysis Laboratory scientists are developing a fundamental understanding of how these new devices operate, as well as a unified methodological approach for validating the applicability of these new diagnostic medical systems. The emphasis of the Image Analysis Laboratory is understanding the building blocks of computer software tools and developing assessment methodologies that appropriately estimate performance and improve clinical and non-clinical trail designs. Application areas include mammography, optical imaging, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, immunohistochemistry, computer-aided diagnosis, drug response and gene expression. This program is located within the Division of Imaging and Applied Mathematics (DIAM).
