Eric Lindblom, JD, Director, Office of PolicyEric Lindblom, JD, Director, Office of Policy

Eric Lindblom has been the Director of the Office of Policy at the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since January 2011.  The Office of Policy gathers research, data and analysis to inform CTP’s efforts; coordinates efforts to develop and evaluate policy options and other CTP initiatives;  helps to evaluate program outcomes; and works across CTP Offices and with key industry and public health stakeholders and others to help determine how CTP can reduce tobacco use and its harms as quickly and effectively as possible.

Prior to joining CTP, Mr. Lindblom served as the Director for Policy Research and General Counsel for The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, where he had worked since 1998.  While with TFK, Mr. Lindblom focused on legal and economic tobacco control issues, and also served as the public health representative on the USDA Federal trade advisory committee for tobacco, cotton, and peanuts.  Mr. Lindblom was the author of major TFK reports on the illicit trade in tobacco products and on the major U.S. cigarette companies and U.S. tobacco farmers, and also wrote or helped draft a range of other TFK reports, legal briefs, white papers, and fact sheets.

Before beginning his work on tobacco control matters, Mr. Lindblom was a public policy analyst and writer for more than ten years, with positions in the federal government, on political campaigns, and with nonprofit organizations.  He also worked extensively as a lawyer, both in a private firm and for a nonprofit advocacy organization, was a state-level lobbyist, and served as a legislative assistant to a member of Congress.  While working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Mr. Lindblom was the author of two interagency reports on homelessness in the United States and federal efforts to address the problem.

Mr. Lindblom has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University.
