Animal drug evaluation and food safety capacity building
Since 2009, CVM has established a biannual technical exchange event with its animal drug pre-approval review counterpart, the Institute of Veterinary Drug Control (IVDC)/Bureau of Veterinary Medicines within the MOA. IVDC gathered its veterinary drug evaluation experts from all areas of China to convene in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in September of 2009 and in Weifang, Shandong Province in September 2011. IVDC officially invited CVM to send technical experts to conduct the three-day workshops at both of these meetings. The topics covered at those meetings included all aspects of the pre-approval technical evaluations required in the United States. In September 2009, CVM’s experts were also invited by CIQ in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province to deliver lectures in a three-day workshop titled “Antimicrobial Drug Residue in Food and Antimicrobial Resistance: Residue Detection and Risk/Safety Assessment”. This CIQ workshop was endorsed by the Division of Meat and Seafood of AQSIQ. There were more than 100 attendees from AQSIQ/CIQ offices and other governmental agencies, institutions and universities who participated in the highly interactive sessions.
