Latin America

The Latin America Office is responsible for FDA’s bilateral and multilateral interactions with Mexico and the countries of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The Latin America Office’s goal is to ensure that the entire range of FDA-regulated products that are developed, tested, manufactured, grown and/or processed from this region and exported to the United States meet the highest standards of quality and safety. Building strong, close collaborative relationships and strengthening capacities within the region will be a prime focus of this office. The Office has a physical presence in the region, through a regional headquarters in the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica., as well as an office in Mexico City, Mexico. Staff are also located at FDA headquarters in Rockville, MD. The work of the Office will be accomplished in conjunction with FDA’s regulatory and public health counterparts in each country of the region, with health organizations, industrial and trade groups, universities and training centers, our U.S. Government counterparts (e.g, U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Commerce and Homeland Security, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services), and embassies in Washington, D.C. Initiatives and activities will be centered on building capacity, harmonizing standards, and strengthening and facilitating interactions with FDA experts in its product centers, and field offices in the United States.
