Africa and Asia

FDA’s Africa and Asia Office is responsible for appropriate engagement with foreign regulatory counterparts in these regions on all issues that relate to products over which FDA has regulatory responsibility. This includes managing the sharing of information and addressing regulatory compliance issues, some of which have a global impact. FDA’s engagement with its foreign regulatory counterparts allows it to share technical expertise that enhances the country’s ability to produce safe foods and quality medical products. These information sharing and capacity building activities strengthen the ability of a country to provide an export that meet the FDA standard and allows FDA to fulfill its mandate of consumer protection for Americans. It also helps the foreign country to strengthen its regulatory infrastructure, safeguard the health of its citizens and contributes to global health. The Africa and Asia Office also coordinates designated country activities that result from specific arrangements with counties within the region, such as the agency’s bilateral activities with Japan.
